Notch Mechanical Constructors announced that it recently received a Pyramid Award in the Mechanical-Industrial – $2 million to $10 million category from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). This national award was given for the mechanical work that Notch performed for Aspen Aerogel’s new advanced technology manufacturing facility in East Providence, R.I. Notch’s representatives received the award June 18 during the 18th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
This $3 million project involved a large amount of high-end specialty process piping work that was built to strict ASME standards. “ABC congratulates Notch for its exceptional work on the Aerogel Manufacturing Facility,” said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. “This project is an outstanding example of the innovation and commitment to superior craftsmanship that embody merit shop construction. It is a pleasure to honor this project with one of the association’s top construction awards.”
ABC designed the national Excellence in Construction program to recognize excellent performance in the merit shop construction field. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. This year’s competition was open to all construction projects completed by ABC member firms during 2007. The winning projects were selected from entries submitted from across the nation and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the American Institute of Architects and National Institute of Building Sciences.
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association representing nearly 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 78 chapters across the United States. For more news and information, visit ABC’s website,www.abc.org.
