BURLINGTON – The Massachusetts Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the Commonwealth’s largest construction trade association, recently presented Notch Mechanical Constructors with ABC’s national Safety Training and Evaluation Program (STEP) “Platinum” award for 2006. STEP awards are presented to companies recognized as having an outstanding commitment to jobsite safety. Awards were presented to contractors at a ceremony on May 17th at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham.
“Notch Mechanical Constructors is to be commended for making safety a major priority. Their efforts will help raise the bar for construction safety and ensure that there are fewer accidents and injuries in an industry that is inherently risky,” said ABC MA President Gregory F. Beeman.
The STEP process provides a unique approach to recognizing the safety achievements of ABC member firms. Two important criteria are taken into consideration for the award: (1) statistical information such as incident rates, lost time, company MOD, and OSHA records during 2006, and (2) a safety audit consisting of 20 key components of a company safety program. This information is an important part of the scoring, and also tells the company where they stand and to what level they can “STEP up.”
The STEP program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. Program benefits include:
*An organized approach for analyzing and developing safety and loss prevention programs
*A valid, objective method for measuring safety program improvements
*A safety performance recognition useful in business development
