Notch Mechanical Constructors has been honored with an Excellence in Construction Award in the Mechanical-Commercial/Industrial (under $250,000) category. This award recognizes Notch’s work last year on the #2 Couch Pit Replacement and Pulper Installation at a Lee, MA paper mill.
The project involved a complex process upgrade which had to be completed during a two week shutdown window with around-the-clock shifts. The client’s shutdown window could not be extended due to a high demand for its product. The Notch team used critical path scheduling (CPM) tools and precise pre-shutdown field dimensioning to assure that the work would be completed in the necessary timeframe. The detailed pre-planning effort helped successfully execute the most critical activities during the shutdown. Notch’s scope of work included upgrading of stainless steel piping systems, installation of new process equipment, and fabrication and installation of a geometrically complex stainless steel chute and a galvanized steel support structure.
Notch received the award from Associated Builders and Contractors, Massachusetts Chapter (ABC), the largest construction trade association in the Commonwealth. The award was presented at ABC’s Fourteenth Annual Massachusetts Chapter Awards banquet held in Cambridge, MA on November 16, 2006. Accepting for Notch were Construction Manager Douglas Neveu and Pre-Construction Manager Armando Santos, as well as the crew leaders who led the project. Their effort demonstrated our commitment to one of Notch’s Core Principles: “Meet the Challenge”.
ABC President Greg Beeman stated that “This places Notch Mechanical Constructors amongst the elite in the construction industry” as this is one of the organization’s top honors.
