Notch Employee Places Second in National Pipefitting Competition

Chicopee, MA – Will Kelley, an apprentice pipefitter at Notch Mechanical Constructors in Chicopee, placed second in the pipefitting category at the National Craft Championships. The annual Championships, hosted by the Associated Builders and Contractors of America (ABC), were held Thursday March 2, 2017, in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The National Craft Championships allow competitors from across the country to demonstrate their superior skills, training, and safe work practices in their chosen craft. Competitors take a written exam that accounts for 25 percent of the total score, then complete a Practical Performance Test, which tests their skills during a six hour project that accounts for 75 percent of the total score.

Kelley competed alongside 17 other top pipefitters from across the country. He reached the nationals by achieving high scores in the ABC Massachusetts Chapter competition, which was held on January 7, 2017. Kelley began his pipefitter apprenticeship in 2014.
